Méduse

Creative Organizations

Méduse is made up of ten artistic and cultural organizations dedicated to artistic research, production, and presentation. Member organizations work both independently and together, each contributing to the global reputation of Quebec culture and to international artistic exchanges. The cooperative’s production spaces serve a broad community, hosting and presenting hundreds of artists from Quebec and beyond every year for workshop stays and short and long term creative residencies. Member organizations put on over 300 public activities, enjoy the support of several thousand members, and reach an estimated audience of 50,000 people every year.

Founded in 1977, La Bande Vidéo is a media arts center devoted to creation and dissemination. It takes part in the development of a contemporary video culture, offers artists production and dissemination tools, and encourages them to build a reflection on their work. The center produces and exhibits mostly experimental single-channel, installations, and animated videos. Its Espace d'exposition is the only gallery exclusively devoted to media arts in Quebec City. Its Médiathèque (www.mlbv.ca) gives free access to about 350 works produced or disseminated by la Bande Vidéo in the last 30 years.

La Bande Vidéo's mandate is defined as follows :
- Supporting the production, dissemination and distribution of independent media arts works;
- Fostering research, experimentation and a renewal of videographic language;
- Creating a space for reflection on media arts;
- Supporting emerging, mid-career and established artists in their practice.
