The Room is a multidisciplinary audiovisual performance for three female singers/performers. A variety of soundscapes are created using vocal techniques – lyrical, growl, noise, cabaret – and electronic tools to modify their parameters. Original texts and performances inspired by physical theater are combined with projections that evoke the unconscious, the haunting presence of memory and the ghostly presence of female archetypes.
“Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s 1927 novel ” To the Lighthouse “, this performance explores how our concept of home, punctuated by the grieves that mark our lives, shapes our identity. Through these notions of home and bereavement emerges that of filiation, as our identity is constructed through our links with the legacy of the matriarchal generations that precede us. Through the inspiration provided by Woolf’s work and life – I share with her the experience of premature maternal loss. I also want to delve deeper into the study of female madness, which has been at the heart of my approach for several years. Beyond stigmatization (notably through the historical concept of female hysteria), artists who identify or identify themselves as ” mad ” are endowed with a particular sensibility. They offer a profound perspective on the human psyche.”
