A new generation of artists to discover
This exhibition showcases a selection of projects from the 15th cohort of the Première Ovation program – Visual arts, media arts and fine crafts. The work of all the grant recipients is presented in a catalog co-published by Ville de Québec and Manif d’art. The catalog showcases the recent work of many of Quebec’s up-and-coming artists and curators.
Curator Laurence Duchesne presents the work of ten artists selected from the 2023-2024 cohort who illustrate the theme Temperatures douces. In addition to the publication of this catalog, this selection will take the form of a photographic exhibition that will circulate for about a year in public spaces throughout Quebec City.
Mild temperatures
« There’s a kind of ambivalence to mild temperatures: at once the promise of respite and the harbinger of disruption. They evoke a climate in transition, a state floating between stability and imbalance. These uncertain winters, too mild to be reassuring, reveal a changing world. This meteorological phenomenon becomes an angle through which to observe our relationship with transformation, memory and time. Softness here is not neutral: it is charged, layered, porous. It calls us to slow down and feel differently. The artistic climate, both poetic and lucid, proposes answers to today’s challenges. And that means affirming our fragility, our belonging and our shared future.»
– Laurence Duchesne
An exhibition in dialogue with urban space
The exhibition will travel to a number of public places in Quebec City, and takes the form of large-format photographic panels. It invites visitors to discover a selection of committed, sensitive and visually powerful work by up-and-coming artists in their everyday lives.
