INFRA is a multi-screen video installation project revolving around the phenomenon of electro-magnetoreactivity. At the center of three undulating projections hangs an antique telephone handset. Unhooked from its casing, which rests lower down, the object seems to be held in a kind of expectation, positioned in such a way as to bait us; biting into it is strongly suggested. At the point of contact between the handset, transformed into a transmitter, and the human hand, a receiver of static electricity, the surrounding calm is disrupted, blurring the previous stability of the audiovisual environment, allowing new films to clash randomly and altering the sound ambience. The resulting multisensory experience explores notions of inframundas – those elements that exist and move beneath the visible surface of things – hidden interconnections and occult relationships that were once – and perhaps still are – maintained with technology.
