Training: introduction to wood engraving at Engramme

With reduction wood engraving, the artist creates a multi-layered printed work from a single engraved wood plate. This workshop will present the basic techniques of reduction woodcutting over a weekend (two full days, 10am-5pm). Participants will learn the following processes:

• Preparing a wood plate for engraving
• Create a template to align the paper with pins
• Create a detailed work plan to create a work of etching in reduction
• Transfer the design to the plate
• Use engraving tools to engrave the design
• Prepare printing press and inks
• Ink and print the plate in successive layers
• Clean the plate without using harmful solvents
