Friction: Amélie Laurence Fortin’s residency at Avatar
📅 February 5 to 21, 2026
Avatar welcomes Amélie Laurence Fortin from February 5 to 21, 2026 for her project Friction. This sculptural, kinetic and sound work is imbued with the artist’s relationship to the territory, sharing her life between Canada and Poland. The monumental work will be exhibited at galerie Chiguer from February 28 to April 19 as part of Manif d’art 2026.
” In winter, the Quebec landscape is transformed by an arid cold that compresses the air, stiffens surfaces and imposes constant endurance on our bodies. The ground creaks, structures respond to the cold and the pressure of the climate shapes the landscape as much as our gestures. Amélie Laurence Fortin’s work is part of this experience of tension and resistance: a set of chains tirelessly slide and rub the surface of a metal monolith, engaging us in a sensitive confrontation with a perpetual movement that persists. ”
