In the depths of a snow-covered forest, a person dressed in a white jumpsuit advances, removes her jumpsuit to reveal another, and so on, until she is naked. Through her gestures, Amy Malbeuf affirms her body as a native woman in the midst of the territory – which, like the forest, is objectified by the colonial gaze – and her relationship with the living, as in A Divine Persona of SWof1…Wof4. Nearby, other portals lead us into the aquatic depths. With his fishing holes, Jordan Bennett invites us, like ice fishermen, to take our time. Invited to participate together in Manif d’art 12, Malbeuf and Bennett make gestures rooted in their respective Métis and Mi’kmaq traditions.
This exhibition is presented by the Hilton Québec.
