Born in Casablanca in 1965, where she lives and works, Mounat Charrat has been developing a body of work since the early 2000s. With a Master’s degree in applied foreign languages, she also received artistic training in Paris at the Académie Julian, then the Académie Charpentier. With a dual Moroccan and Spanish culture, she acts as a bridge between different territories, questioning the notion of individual emancipation. Mounat Charrat’s works embrace a broad spectrum of mediums, evolving at the limits of varied practices. Through them, the artist produces ideas and critical reflections on the crucial themes of our times. She possesses a singular ability to extend the art of memory, methodically observing the elements that surround her, then assembling a collection of objects categorized according to their shape, color or evocative power. His work takes the form of open spaces offering different temporalities and generating different narratives within a single work. It’s up to the viewer to mentally wander around the stage to unravel the mysteries of these creations, which are at once captivating and bewitching, yet also singular and disconcerting.
