For more than thirty years, Reno Salvail has traveled the globe to connect telluric, cosmic and anthropological phenomena. He has sought to link human visions and interventions with the transformations that meteorites, volcanoes and deserts bring to the world.
For some fifteen years, the artist battled against an insidious and implacable enemy, multiple myeloma. His body, bruised but tenacious, became a field of research as well as a metaphor for the universe, evoking milky ways, craters in the earth’s crust, stones or meandering rivers.
Je suis devenu le volcan (I became the volcano) is a book that retraces the artist’s practice, which has unfolded in numerous research projects that have often led to expeditions into remote territories: a great journey that is celebrated here through images.
It is with emotion that VU will unveil the fruit of a colossal five-year project, developed with the artist and finalized with particular care since his death in 2023. The evening will also be an opportunity to pay tribute to this great artist and human being, in the company of his family, friends and colleagues.
