Join us for an exploration of feminism through the body, movement and the moving image.
Curated by psychologist, teacher and artist Celia Vara, this 1-hour program features works by Fina Miralles, Esther Ferrer, marshalore and Manon Labrecque (1973-1998), intertwined with somatic activities and collective reflection. Based on the concept of kinesthetic empathy – the ability to perceive and feel the movements of others through one’s own bodily and sensory experience – participants will be invited to experiment with new ways of inhabiting their bodies and their environment.
The selected works are: Duna (1973), Deixada Anar de Cargols (1973) and Petjades (1976) by Fina Miralles (Catalonia); three excerpts from Acciones Corporales (1975) by Esther Ferrer (Basque Country); Ruelle en perspective (1977) by marshalore (Quebec); as well as Vice, vertu et viceversa (1993), Oublier (1994) and Parc d’amusement (1992) by Manon Labrecque (Quebec).
The videos question the body’s power to act and its place in public and private spaces. A unique opportunity to think, feel and move together around embodied feminist practices.
