In this interactive audiovisual work, we are invited to play a brand-new version of the Simon Says game that uses artificial intelligence! This new installation by artist Matthew Biederman playfully examines the dynamics of surveillance and conformity in a society increasingly analyzed by technology.
Following system-generated commands, we traverse the tension between individual action and external control. Each pose represents both a moment of creativity and the negation of identity in a digitally mediated environment. The computer vision system used echoes the omnipresence of public surveillance, capturing both physical movement and conformity.
The game prompts us to reflect on our own behaviors in the face of an ever-watchful eye. The work is a commentary on the human tendency to conform, often thoughtlessly, to authoritarian signals.
