Group tours

Méduse offers group tours to school groups, the curious, cultural delegations and organizations of all kinds. Visits for less than 20 people are free of charge, and will be tailored to the needs of the group.

Rallye de la Collection Méduse (school visit)

The Méduse Collection is a contemporary art collection featuring over 90 works by artists from the greater Quebec City area. Two types of scavenger hunts are proposed: the Discovery scavenger hunt for primary school groups and the Meduse scavenger hunt for secondary school groups. The questions were devised with the help of an art education resource to ensure consistency with the skills assessed at school, while ensuring that the activity meets the needs and abilities of young people in each age group. At the end of each rally, Méduse offers the possibilty to invite an artist who is part of the Collection to talk about his or her work. The exchange will enrich the understanding and appreciation of the works for both the students and the guest artist. This activity is free of charge, as it is financed by the Ville de Québec, and can accommodate up to thirty people at a time. The activity lasts approximately 1 h 30 for the scavenger hunt and 2 h 30 with the artist’s presentation. *Only avaible in French at the moment*

The grand tour

This is a tour of Méduse and its member organizations. This type of visit can focus on production areas or exhibitions, depending on the group’s interests. Visits can last between 1 h and 2 h 30, depending on the teacher’s choice. This is the type of visit recommended for programs specializing in art or film, such as CEGEPs and universities.

Most workshops, exhibition spaces and corridors are too narrow to accommodate larger groups. For this reason, we have to divide groups into sub-groups of 20 people, up to a maximum of 60. The tour fee is $150 for groups of 20 or more. This amount is used solely to pay our guides.

In both cases, during a school visit, we require one adult for every 15 students.

To reserve your group tour, call (418) 640-9218 or e-mail coordination@meduse.org.

Please note that a minimum of three weeks is required between booking and the time of the visit.

Getting to Méduse

Méduse is located at the junction of Upper and Lower Town, between côte d’Abraham and rue Saint-Vallier Est. It’s easily accessible by bus, thanks in particular to Métrobus 800 and 801.

Méduse has no parking facilities. Street parking is free for 1 h on weekdays and unlimited on weekends. Otherwise, parking meters are located on rue Saint-Vallier Est, just opposite the entrance to 541. Pay parking is also available nearby, notably at the corner of rue du Parvis and boulevard Charest, and at the corner of rue Sainte-Hélène and rue de la Chapelle.

Méduse’s main entrance is located at 541, rue Saint-Vallier Est. To enter the building, use the intercom located at this entrance and select the organization you wish to visit. Someone will be able to open the door for you remotely.

When exhibitions are open, the center galleries are accessible at the following addresses:

  • La Bande Vidéo – 620, côte d’Abraham
  • Manif d’art – 600, côte d’Abraham
  • L’Œil de Poisson, Ahkwayaonhkeh and VU – 580, côte d’Abraham
  • Engramme – 510, côte d’Abraham

Accessibility

For people with reduced mobility, an automated door has been installed at 551, rue Saint-Vallier Est. Due to intrusions and mischief, the door is kept locked. If you plan to visit us, please contact us at (418) 640-9218, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Méduse has an elevator that takes visitors from the first floor to the 5th floor. Most of the exhibition spaces, the Collection, the cinema and the auditoriums are therefore accessible to people with reduced mobility. Unfortunately, as these are several reconverted old buildings, some spaces are not accessible by elevator. Visitors also have to go outside the complex to access the Engramme spaces and La Bande Vidéo gallery.
